Rohit Sharma not playing today’s 3rd T20I: The Indian cricket team has rested its vice-captain for the dead-rubber third T20I in Guyana.

During the third T20I of the ongoing India’s tour of West Indies in Guyana, India have decided to rest vice-captain Rohit Sharma for the dead-rubber encounter. It is worth mentioning that India have already gained an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

Having scored 91 runs at an average of 45.50 and a strike rate of 119.73 in the first two T20Is, Sharma is currently the highest run-scorer in the T20I series.

It was during the toss that India captain Virat Kohli announced that Sharma has been rested after deciding to bowl first. The skipper also announced that fast bowler Deepak Chahar and uncapped leg-spinner Rahul Chahar have been included for the third T20I.

“[Pitch] Been under the covers for a bit, so want to use the dampness. Rohit is resting today so I am playing. A couple of guys playing their first game. KL Rahul will play, Rahul Chahar will play instead of [Ravindra] Jadeja. Deepak Chahar is in for Khaleel Ahmed,” Kohli was quoted as saying.

As far as the home captain in Carlos Brathwaite was concerned, he laid emphasis on winning the match to both save pride and gain momentum ahead of the ODI series.

“Firstly, need to win first. We need to bat well, bowl well, field well. There was a lot progression from the first game, especially with the bat. We had a chat about it, keeping our positive intent with boundary hitters. We need to find certain protocols and set a standard. Once we get our house in order, we’ll see the on-field results changed,” Brathwaite said.
