Nick Compton, the most hated cricketer in India, picks an Indian in his all-time XI. Despite criticising India every opportunity he gets, the Englishman found a place for an Indian in his team.

Nick Compton has cropped a fair bit of hate from the Indian Contingent due to his comments on the Indian Cricket team and more specifically, their captain Virat Kohli.

Last year Kohli achieved a feat that no other Indian batsmen has ever done before. The Indian captain knocked 3 consecutive ODI centuries. Former India opener Askash Chopra praised Kohli and joked that Oxford was considering replacing the word Consistency with Kohli.

Nick Compton entered the fray and belittled Kohli’s achievements by pointing out that the feat was achieved against the West Indies. More recently, Compton criticized Kohli for asking the crowd not to boo Steve Smith and David Warner in the recently concluded Cricket World Cup.

The Indian fans didn’t take lightly to Compton’s repeated criticism and they have since shared a love-hate relationship, in the sense that they love to hate him. However, it seems that Compton’s disdain for Kohli has not seeped into his opinion over other Indian cricketers as he picked an Indian player in his all time XI.

Nick Compton picks his all-time XI

While speaking with ESPNCricinfo, Compton was asked to name his all time XI with the condition being that the players should be the one’s he either played alongside or against. Naturally, the team was brimming with English players. There were sprinkles of other nations too, one of whom was from India.

Nick Compton named Somerset teammate Murali Kartik in his playing XI. Justifying the choice, Compton said:

“For me, one of the best finger spinners of modern times and very unlucky not to have played 70 or 80 Test matches. Beautiful bowler. Guile, flight, confidence – arrogance at times – very good cricket brain, and a street-fighter. He was someone I played a lot of cricket with at Somerset, and I thought he was a phenomenal bowler.”
