World Test Championship Points Table: How many points have Sri Lanka won after beating New Zealand at Galle?
World Test Championship Points Table: Sri Lanka registered a six-wicket victory in their inaugural match of the World Test Championship.
During the fifth day of the first Test of the ongoing New Zealand’s tour of Sri Lanka at Galle, Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 6 wickets to go 1-0 up in the two-match Test series.
Chasing a 268-run target, Sri Lanka started on a phenomenal note. Opening batsmen Dimuth Karunaratne (122) and Lahiru Thirimanne (64) stitching a 161-run opening stand pretty much laid the foundation for a Sri Lankan victory.
While the hosts lost wickets on the morning of Day 5, they never seemed in a spot of bother. It was the pair of veteran batsman Angelo Mathews (28) and all-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva (14) which saw Sri Lanka sealing the chase in the 87th over.

World Test Championship Points Table
The recently concluded Test match was the first for both the teams in the ICC World Test Championship. The two-year tournament will see 21 Test series being played before the final match at Lord’s.
It is worth mentioning that winnings teams will receive points on the basis of the number of matches they are playing in the series. In a two-match series like the one being played between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, the winning team will get 60 points.

Therefore, with 60 points from one match, Sri Lanka are currently at the top of the points table. With the tournament just launched earlier this month, it calls for an intriguing time in Test cricket.
Australia, who comprehensively won the first 2019 Ashes Test against England at Edgbaston, are at the second position in the points table with 24 points under their belt. Since Australia are playing a five-match series, the points awarded for each victory will be 24.
