Alisson Becker: Liverpool provide injury update on their shot-stopper ahead of Newcastle game
Liverpool have revealed that Alisson Becker is making steady process day by day and will come back soon.
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker sustained a calf injury during the first game against Norwich City in Anfield. The reigning European Champions have been without the Brazilian since the opening day of the Premier League.
Despite his absence, the Reds have won the opening four games, but they have kept only one clean sheet in the process. Deputy Adrian, who signed only a day before the transfer deadline day, has fared decently by not committing glaring errors.
When his teammates were away for the international break, the Spaniard worked with his goalkeeping coach John Achterberg to enhance. However, Alisson Becker was also part of the training set up too. The former Roma goalkeeper has been doing his rehabilitation programme with the fitness staff.
Speaking recently, Jurgen Klopp stated there would be no timescale placed upon Alisson’s comeback from his calf injury. Such sentiments were echoed by the goalkeeping coach Achterberg, who wants the number one to recover completely rather than hurrying him back to the action.
Achterberg said: “Ali has been working with Dave [Rydings] in the gym a lot to improve the strength and try to keep the fitness levels up,”
“In the last few days he has been out on the pitch to do some catching and footwork, as well as small passing drills.
“He has made steady progress, but it is difficult to say how long it will take or how it will progress. It needs time and we cannot look too far ahead, so we take each day as it comes, see how he feels, and then make progress from that.”
When Alisson Becker was injured, Athletic provided the breakthrough news. The 26-year-old is expected to make his comeback by September end or the first week of October.
Liverpool will take on Newcastle United in Anfield on Saturday. This home fixture is followed by the Champions League trip to Naples on Tuesday.
