Liverpool paid £1m settlement to Manchester City after allegedly spying on their scouting database
Liverpool paid £1m settlement to Manchester City after allegedly spying on their scouting database. The reds refused to own any liability or wrongdoing but paid the settlement regardless.
Liverpool have had a storied rivalry with Manchester United in the past. However, another team from Manchester now have their attention these days. United have long fallen from their pedestal. In comparison Manchester City have risen to become the Premier League’s dominant force.
The Sky Blues are head and shoulders above everyone else in the league bar Liverpool who have stretched them to their limits far too often for their liking. While everyone talks about the top 6, the fact of the matter is that the league is essentially a 2-horse race between these sides.
Fans from both sides are aware of the fact and have grown a disdain for the other. The 2 sides will face each other in the league this season on November 10th and it looks like fans from both sides will have more to bicker about after The Times broke a report regarding a huge scandal involving them.
Liverpool paid £1m settlement to Manchester City after allegedly spying on their scouting database
Liverpool allegedly spied on Manchester City’s scouting system and were forced to pay a £1m settlement to them. The confidential settlement took place after City employed computer espionage experts to verify if their scouting system named Scout7 had actually been spied on.
This was the same year when three former City scouts including Liverpool’s current sporting director, Michael Edwards, swapped over to the Reds. Liverpool have been accused of hacking the database over a hundred times. This resulted in City accelerating the transfers of Fernandinho and Jesus Navas.
Liverpool paid the settlement without accepting any wrong doing and the matter was never taken to court. Both clubs declined to speak to The Times, with Liverpool stating they would refuse to discuss confidential club matters.
