Man Utd approached Zidane

Man Utd approached Zidane: The Old Trafford side is reported to have approached Zidane before appointing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Manchester United have appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the new manager of the club earlier this week. The club parted ways with Jose Mourinho two days after the 3-1 loss to Liverpool.

Solskjaer has formerly worked with Manchester United’s youth team, where he trained current first-team players like Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard.

Solskjaer will make his managerial debut for the side against Cardiff City, the club he formerly managed. The Norwegian has been a decorated player in Manchester United’s history, winning six Premier League titles and a European Cup during his time.

However, a former Sky Sports journalist has now reported that Manchester United contacted Real Madrid’s former manager Zinedine Zidane for the job.

Man Utd approached Zidane:

Richard Keys, journalist and former Sky Sports presenter, has now revealed that Manchester United have already offered the role to Zinedine Zidane.

The club reportedly made contact with former Real Madrid boss after parting ways with Jose Mourinho. However, Zidane stated that he is ‘unsure’ about taking over the club midway through the season, and intends to get back to management at the beginning of the next season.

“United have spoken to Zidane. After meeting in Paris two months ago, they made him an offer this week that he was unsure about,” Keys wrote on his blog, according to English media outlet Mirror.

“His preference is to start work in July – if the job is still on offer.”

Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer interacted with the media for the first time since taking over the role as the boss. He addressed various concerns, including the man-management in the dressing room and the targets for the season. He also talked about a full-time role at the club.

“When you get a job like this and they ask you to sign for six months you say ‘yeah, I’m happy to help out’ and my job is to do as well as I can,” said Solskjaer.

“They understand there are so many managers who would love to be manager of Manchester United. I’m one of them, but it’s not something we’ve talked about – they’ll do a process for the next six months.”
