Mohammad Hasnain’s wayward throw: The Pakistani fast bowler put on display a poor fielding attempt in the first T20I in Lahore.

During the first T20I of the recently concluded Sri Lanka’s tour of Pakistan in Lahore, Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain’s attempt of running out Sri Lanka opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka saw him registering a wayward throw and giving an extra run to the batsman.

It all happened on the third delivery of the second over when Gunathilaka played a Faheem Ashraf delivery towards mid-off to sneak a single. Hasnain, who was fielding at mid-off, ran quick to the ball but a directionless throw saw him throwing the ball towards the slips.

With no fielder in the vicinity of the ball, Sri Lanka opening pair of Gunathilaka and Avishka Fernando ran a single. After being put in to bat by Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, the visitors scored 165/5 in their allotted quota of 20 overs.

With Pakistani batsmen registering a collective failure, they ended up losing the match by 64 runs. The pattern was followed throughout the three-match series as Pakistan failed to chase totals thrice at the same venue.

Sri Lanka, who are yet to qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup 2020, whitewashing the No. 1 ranked T20I team in their own conditions spoke highly of their skills in this series. The series loss in such a manner invited severe criticism for Pakistan head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq and captain Sarfaraz Ahmed.
