Kings XI Punjab’s new head coach for IPL 2020: Kings XI have appointed former Indian captain as their new head coach for IPL 2020.

Indian Premier League franchise Kings XI Punjab are among the three teams who are yet to win an IPL title despite having played in the IPL since its inaugural season in 2008. While Punjab have tried several captain-coach combinations over the years, the poor execution of their plans seems to be a massive concern for them.

Preparing for IPL 2020, Kings XI remain the only team without a head coach after former coach Mike Hesson has moved to Royal Challengers Bangalore as the Director of Cricket Operations.

Kings XI Punjab’s new head coach for IPL 2020

It was earlier reported that Kings XI have shortlisted four Australian candidates for the position of their head coach. With the date of the next IPL auction being announced now, it was imperative for the franchise to name a head coach.

Contrary to the same, Punjab have now confirmed the reports of hiring former India captain Anil Kumble as their head coach for the upcoming season. KXIP have also put Kumble in charge of “all cricket-related affairs”.

Having led Royal Challengers in the past, Kumble has been part of the support staff of both RCB and Mumbai Indians. The 48-year old has also coached the Indian national team for a brief period.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Kumble will meet the team management on October 19 where he is likely to take a decision on captain Ravichandran Ashwin’s trade to Delhi Capitals among other concerns.

Among changes in support staff of other teams, Bangalore have appointed former Australia batsman Simon Katich as their head coach.

While Kolkata Knight Riders have appointed former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum as their head coach, Sunrisers Hyderabad are concerned, they have replaced Tom Moody with former England coach Trevor Bayliss.
