Krishnappa Gowtham scoops Siddarth Kaul: India B’s all-rounder played a highly innovative and effective shot in Ranchi.

During the first match of the ongoing Deodhar Trophy between India A and India B in Ranchi, India B all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham played a quickfire cameo to power his team to 302/6 in their allotted quota of 50 overs.

Coming in to bat at No. 7 in the 48th over, Karnataka’s Gowtham scored 19* (8) with the help of a four and two sixes in a brisk 37-run partnership alongside fellow all-rounder Vijay Shankar (26).

Gowtham’s best shot came on the penultimate delivery of the penultimate over when he scooped India A fast bowler Siddarth Kaul for a six over third-man. Initially wanting to play the shot towards the fine-leg region, Gowtham adjusted well according to the line of the delivery to achieve maximum result in the slog overs.

Being hit by Gowtham in such a manner and having watched the ball fly over the boundary had shocked Kaul who conceded 77 runs for a wicket in the 10 overs that he bowled yesterday.

After India A captain Hanuma Vihari won the toss and put India B in to bat, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Baba Aparajith shared a 158-run stand for the third wicket. While Gaikwad scored 113 (122) with the help of eight fours and four sixes, Aparajith scored 101 (101) with the help of six fours and two sixes.

Barring Vihari’s 59 (82), none of the India A batsman went on to convert his start into a big innings. Pacers Roosh Kalaria (3) and Mohammed Siraj (2) played a vital role in bundling out the opposition for 194 in 47.2 overs as India B won the match by a handsome margin of 108 runs.
