IPL 2020 Auction: Glenn Maxwell fetches INR 10.75 crore; Eoin Morgan sold for INR 5.25 crore

Glenn Maxwell fetches INR 10.75 crore: The Australian all-rounder became the first player to cross the 10-crore barrier in the auction.

Defending Champions Mumbai Indians have bought Australia batsman Mumbai Indians for his base price of INR 2 crore. Becoming the first player to find a buyer, it was surprising that the hard-hitting batsman was sold for his base price.

Having done exceedingly well across T20 leagues, the right-hand top-order batsman was expected to initiate a bidding war among franchises but it wasn’t to be.

Veteran India batsman Robin Uthappa, who was released by KKR after a long association, received a tight contest between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals. The war was eventually won by Royal who bought Uthappa for INR 3 crore.

Australia limited-overs captain Aaron Finch became Royal Challengers’ first buy for the season. RCB were involved in a close contest with Knight Riders who eventually gave up on the top-order batsman as Mike Hesson bought the Australia skipper for INR 4.4 crore.

Glenn Maxwell fetches INR 10.75 crore

The biggest battle of the first hour was fought between Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Capitals for Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. With a base price of INR 2 crore, Maxwell will receive INR 10.75 crore for playing for Punjab in IPL 2020.

Before Maxwell, England World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan became the first player to fetch a price in excess of INR 5 crore. The southpaw commenced a bidding war between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals.

The newly-appointed coach Brendon McCullum’s resilience saw him buying Morgan from the hands of Capitals at a price of INR 5.25 crore. Among other English players, all-rounder Chris Woakes was bought by Capitals for his base price of INR 1.5 crore.

Delhi Capitals made their first buy of the season in the form of England opening batsman Jason Roy. Having played for Delhi previously, Roy will get INR 1.5 for playing IPL 2020.

As far as the unsold players are concerned, the Indian trio of Hanuma Vihari, Cheteshwar Pujara and Yusuf Pathan didn’t allure any buyer in addition to New Zealand all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme.
