Why is Kane Williamson not playing today’s fourth T20I: The hosts have been hit hard by the news regarding their captain.
Having already lost the five-match series, New Zealand have been hit hard by the news of their captain Kane Williamson getting ruled out of the fourth T20I against India at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington.
It is worth mentioning that senior seamer Tim Southee will lead the team in Williamson’s absence. In the 11 matches that New Zealand have played under Southee, they have won seven, lost three and tied one.
The last time when Southee led New Zealand in a T20I was when they played an intriguing super over against England in Auckland.

The development regarding Williamson was made public by New Zealand Cricket via a post on social media platform Twitter.
“Captain Kane Williamson has been ruled out of tonight’s 4th T20I with a left-shoulder injury (AC joint) sustained while diving in the field in game 3. He will hopefully be available for the final game of the series at Bay Oval. Tim Southee will captain the side in T20I 4,” read the tweet.
Having scored 160 runs in three T20Is at an average of 53.33 and a strike rate of 170.21 including a career-best 95 (48) in the last match in Hamilton, Williamson is currently the highest run-scorer in the series.
