WATCH: Shafali Verma follows unbelievable six with fist pump vs Australia
Shafali Verma follows unbelievable six with fist pump: The Indian opening batter played exceptionally well today.
During the fifth match of the ongoing Australia Tri-Nation Women’s T20 Series between Australia and India at the Junction Oval, India registered a convincing victory as they chased down a 174-run target in the last over.
The daunting task was completed on the back of a quickfire 85-run opening partnership between Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana. Verma gave a brisk start to her team by scoring 49 (28) with the help of eight fours and a six at a strike rate of 175. The 16-year played a vital role in India scoring 70 runs in the powerplay.
On the other hand, Mandhana went on to score her 11th T20I half-century before getting out in the penultimate over. Having scored 55 (48) with the help of seven fours, Mandhana top-scored for India.
It is worth mentioning that the best shot of the Indian innings was hit by Verma off Australia seamer Megan Schutt. On the fourth delivery of the sixth over, Verma stepped down the track to hit Schutt right behind the sight screen for a 79m six.
After India captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and invited the hosts in to bat, Australia scored 173/5 in 20 overs on the back of Ashleigh Gardner’s career-best 93 (57) with the help of 11 fours and three sixes.

And Shafali Verma proved my closing line true as well: “Because on their day, India don’t need seven match winners. One would be enough.”
