Akif Javed gifts boundary to Imad Wasim: Islamabad’s pacer put on display a substandard fielding to give four runs to Kings’ captain.

During the 28th match of the ongoing fifth season of the Pakistan Super League between Karachi Kings and Islamabad United in Karachi, Islamabad United pacer Akif Javed made a mess of what was a regular fielding chance to gift four runs to Karachi Kings captain Imad Wasim.

It all happened on the last delivery of the seventh over when Wasim played a Rumman Raees delivery towards the third-man region. In what seemed like a simple pick-the-ball-and-throw-back opportunity, a sluggish Javed allowed the ball to travel in between his legs to reach the boundary.

Kings, who were chasing a 137-run target, sealed the chase in the last over. It was opening batsman Sharjeel Khan’s blistering 37 (14) including three fours and four sixes which played a vital role in Karachi reaching the second position in the points table on the back of their fifth victory.

After Wasim won the toss and put the visitors in to bat, United posted a below par 136/6 in their allotted quota of 20 overs.

Having scored 37 (30) with the help of four fours, Islamabad batsman Hussain Talat was their top-scorer. Karachi bowlers in Iftikhar Ahmed, Arshad Iqbal, Umaid Asif, Wasim and Chris Jordan picked a wicket apiece.

With the outbreak of coronavirus affecting cricket in more ways than one, PSL 2020 remains the only major tournament which is being played at the moment. A rejigged schedule will see the tournament culminate on March 18.
