David Luiz admits he had reservations before joining Arsenal on last day of transfer window
David Luiz admits that he had second thoughts before making a move to Arsenal after he was discarded by Frank Lampard from his plans.
David Luiz made a surprising move to Arsenal during the last summer on the final day of the English transfer window. The Brazilian defender has revealed that he had his own reservations before joining the North London club.
‘I was always very happy at Chelsea,’ the 32-year-old told ESPN Brazil. ‘And then the understanding of knowing that my cycle was over, even though I thought it wasn’t going to end that way, in a quick decision.
‘I decided to leave Chelsea before I even had the door open at Arsenal. I know that Arsenal wasn’t in a great moment, they had a weight on their defence, (when) I go there I’ll have to pay the restaurant bill without having eaten.
‘But I’m going because I want something new for my life, I want to learn.’ “It wasn’t easy at first. Not only (in terms) of adaptation, but about taking the criticism, the sadness of many Chelsea fans for not understanding my personal decisions.
‘My respect and love for Chelsea have always been true.’ Luiz added further. The 32-year-old defender made a switch to Arsenal on a low £8 million fee.
Since then Luiz has been an integral part of the team at Arsenal but still, he has not brought any improvement to the squad and Arsenal’s difficulties at the back are still continuing.
On the other hand, it is no secret that Lampard clearly told Luiz that he did not see him in his plans, which made Luiz leave the Blues. Lampard brought in Fikayo Tomori into the first team.

Meanwhile, Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Kurt Zouma continue to serve Chelsea in defence, giving a decent set of players to maintain the level of performances.
