Virender Sehwag denies reports of becoming Head Coach of the Indian Team
From the varied reports that are coming through, one thing that seems certain is that Anil Kumble’s job is under threat. The BCCI all but confirmed this when they started inviting applicants for the head coach of team India. Among the rumored applicants, the name that intrigued everyone the most was of the former India opener, Virender Sehwag. In response to these rumors, Virender Sehwag denies reports of becoming Head Coach of the Indian Team.
Apparently there are pertinent issues simmering just below the surface.

Many players in the team are reportedly unhappy with Kumble. They do not agree with Kumble’s authoritarian method of coaching which gives them a lack of freedom in the dressing room. There have also been reports that Kumble is not happy with the fitness of some players in the dressing room, which has resulted in more discontent among the players.
Some of the players had reported the current situation to the BCCI, which is why the board invited applications for the head coach. The board is also unhappy with Kumble’s constant demands. Both Kumble and captain, Virat Kohli had recently approached the BCCI over an increase in the player wages. The BCCI will take some time in this matter, as they mull over the best possible solution.

It is in these circumstances that Sehwag’s name came into contention for the job. The BCCI apparently wants Sehwag to become the new coach, but the former Delhi opener does not seem to be very interested in the role.
Sehwag’s only previous coaching role was his recently concluded stint with Kings XI Punjab in the IPL. His team finished fifth, and did not qualify for the play offs.
As of now, Kumble will keep his job until the end of India’s Champions Trophy campaign. What happens after that is anyone’s guess.
