West Indian opener retires hurt: The West Indian opening batsman walked back after getting hit by a delivery from English fast bowler Jofra Archer.

During the fifth day of the first Test of the ongoing West Indies’ tour of England in Southampton, West Indies have crumbled in the initial phase of a 200-run chase.

Apart from losing vice-captain Kraigg Brathwaite (4) and Shamarh Brooks (0) in quick succession to England’s Jofra Archer, the visitors received another massive blow in the form of opening batsman John Campbell walking back to the pavilion after getting retired hurt.

It all happened on the last delivery of the fourth over when Campbell left a delivery outside the off stump and immediately called for a doctor. After a delayed check, it was decided to take Campbell off the pitch as the southpaw needed treatment on his right toe.

It is worth mentioning that there are speculation of Campbell fracturing his right toe after he was hit on the first ball that Archer bowled in this innings. In what was a full-length delivery, it directly hit Campbell on his toe causing him a significant amount of discomfort.

According to the commentators, 26-year old Campbell will come out to bat if required by his team today. Campbell, who looked impressive for most part of his 28 (36) including three fours in the first innings, might well be needed during the business end of this innings as West Indies wouldn’t want to leave any opportunity in a bid to gain a 1-0 lead in the series.

Campbell, who made his Test debut against England at home in 2019, has had a few starts against them and would be hopeful of contributing in a daunting situation later today.
