WWE Extreme Rules: Why does the Horror Show at Extreme Rules only have a few matches on the card?
WWE Extreme Rules only has 6 matches on the card so far. What is the reason behind the WWE booking so few matches on the show?
Not too long ago the WWE seemed to overbook all their pay-per-views. That should come as no surprise considering the promotion has 12 active titles on main roster (13 if you count the 24/7 title). There would simply be too many matches on every event.

The Horror show at Extreme Rules however, has only 6 matches on the card so far. A few matches more could be added to the pay-per-view by the end of SmackDown. However, it will still be significantly less than what we’ve come to expect from the promotion.
Why does the Horror Show at Extreme Rules only have a few matches on the card?
According to Tom Colohue, the reason behind this is a mandate from the WWE management. He has claimed that the recent mandate prioritises longer matches instead of more matches. This is done in order to deal with the absence of several superstars.
“There has been a mandate from the WWE management recently to have longer matches,” Colohue said. “A large part of this is down to the fact that they don’t have as many people as they normally would. So they have to stretch things out a little bit.
“It worked out, I think about a week and a half ago on SmackDown, where they just hit all the different divisions one match for each one and it really helped keep things hyped up, but obviously, they have lost a few more people since then. RAW this week was very much built around that as well. So for Extreme Rules, the same rule applies.
The Cinematic matches for Extreme Rules are also very long according to Colohue. This he says, is another reason why the card has been kept so brief. He does add though that a few more matches could be added to the card in the lead up to WWE Extreme Rules.
“The cinematic matches are apparently quite long, and there is still a chance that we see a SmackDown Tag Team titles match added to the card.”
