Jonny Bairstow dismissal vs Australia: Watch English opener out hit-wicket off Mitchell Starc in Southampton T20I
Jonny Bairstow dismissal vs Australia: The English opening batsman was out in an unusual manner at the Ageas Bowl today.
During the second T20I of the ongoing Australia’s tour of England in Southampton, England opening batsman Jonny Bairstow continued on his low returns as an opener in T20Is after getting out in an unusual manner.
It all happened on the third delivery of the third over when Bairstow was beaten for pace whilst attempting to pull a delivery from Australia spearhead Mitchell Starc. Having missed the delivery, a swiveling Bairstow ended up hitting his leg-stump to put a halt to his innings.
Having hit a couple of fours in the same over, Bairstow had showed signs of finding form but it wasn’t to be as he departed for 9 (11) in a 158-run chase.
Coming on the back of three single-digit scores in his last four innings, Bairstow now had unconvincing numbers as a T20I opening batsman. In 12 innings now, Bairstow has scored 270 runs at an average of 22.50 and a strike rate of 146.73.
As far as this match is concerned, England have recovered from the early blow on the back of a solid third-wicket partnership between wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan.
After Australia captain Aaron Finch had won the toss and chose to bat, Australia scored a mediocre 157/7 in 20 overs. Having scored 40 (33) with the help of four fours and two sixes, Finch was the highest run-scorer for his team. With bowling figures of 4-0-40-2, England’s Chris Jordan was the pick of their bowlers.

How bizarre. Jonny Bairstow hits his own stumps with his bat after he thinks better of trying to pull Mitchell Starc, and the bat knocks leg stump on the way round. England 19 for 1.

Bairstow’s 5th straight low score in the T20s, Jason Roy and Alex Hales will be happy
