Ravichandran Ashwin receives flak for comparing CSK’s return to the Munich Air Disaster
Ravichandran Ashwin is known for trolling a lot of his critics on Twitter, but this time he has done something that has enraged a considerable part of the Indian sporting community.
While talking about CSK’s return to the IPL, Ravichandran Ashwin very loosely compared CSK’s return to the Munich Air disaster which rocked Manchester United in 1958.
In his interview Ashwin said that CSK’s brand value had actually increased in the last two seasons, despite being suspended from the IPL(due to spot-fixing).
“I think the two-year hiatus for CSK probably increases its value much like what it did for Manchester United when the air crash happened (in 1958 when eight of their players died). I don’t know if it’s in the same league but surely people in Chennai and fans across the world are waiting for CSK to return. I hope it turns out to be a good comeback,” Ashwin said.
8 Manchester United players died that fateful day in Munich, halting Manchester United’s domination in the English game and bringing an end to the famous ‘Busby Babes’.
Ashwin’s comments have football fans raging, as they can’t believe how Ashwin could compare a suspended team’s return to a air tragedy.
Ashwin then spoke out against his critics, saying that he only meant that the break in action would make fans come out in greater numbers.
He tweeted, “Guys please take the reporting with a pinch of salt with respect to the Munich tragedy and CSK. All I said was the break will make the fans turn up in numbers when the come back happens. Not required to blow it out of context.”
“Now all those who hate me, please get off my mentions, we will catch-up sometime later when I get misquoted again. Thanks.” he added.

Hopefully Ashwin concentrates on making some sense in his statements from here on. Insensitive.
