Parwinder Awana is beaten up in public

Right arm Indian pace bowler Parwinder Awana was allegedly beaten up by five anonymous men in Greater Noida on Friday. The police said that Awana had tried to intervene in a brawl consisting of those men.

The incident happened at around 5.30 P.M. near an ice factory behind The Great Venice Mall, where Awana had gone to buy ice after a having walked home from Haridwar on his Kanwar pilgrimage.

According to the police, when Awana was passing through Kasna area of Greater Noida, he crossed five men and a woman, who were in a car. When he heard an argument between the two sides, he tried to intervene but ended up being manhandled by them.

The 31-year-old cricketer claimed that when he tried to get down from the car and intervene, he was stopped. He left the spot and the group had also taken off.

But after some distance, when he overtook their vehicle, the attackers became aggressive, stopped their car in front of his and beat him up.

The attackers reportedly were running away after a fight in a nearby factory, and were from Ghanghola village of Greater Noida.

The pacer from Delhi has been involved in such a situation before also when he was punched repeatedly by a Noida policemen after an argument over parking in 2014.

The unfortunate incident has taken place days after the terrible attack that took place at Mohammed Shami’s house in Kolkata, where his residence was attacked by local youths who tried to barge into his apartment.

Parwinder Awana has represented India in two T20 internationals and had been an integral part of the IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab from 2011 to 2014. The fast-bowler who plays for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy has been struggling with his form off late.
