“It’s almost background noise”- George Russell on compliments by Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso
“It’s almost background noise”- George Russel on compliments received by Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso; says have to prove on track.
George Russell, so far being toiled in the current system at Williams, and despite not securing an abundance of points, his potential is still observable by driving a car with the most number of limitations in the paddock.
That’s why the young British driver, who graduated from Mercedes’ development system was recently praised by Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. But, for Russell, they don’t matter much until he doesn’t prove his calibre on the track.
“I obviously really appreciate these comments, without a shadow of a doubt,” Russell said when asked by Autosport what impact the praise had on him.
“It’s almost background noise, really, because I know I have to continue to perform week in, week out. As fantastic as it is getting a pat on the back and praise from these guys, I’ve got to back that up with the job that I do on-track.
“I’ve always tried not letting comments like this get into my head. I’m doing this sport for myself and my family. The biggest amount of pressure I have is from myself, and not from anybody else.” he concluded.
His future relies on 2021
This statement by Russell is coming out as reportedly Mercedes has claimed that his next move as the successor of either of current Mercedes drivers depends upon his performances in 2021.
The Briton driver was lucky this time, as he was on the verge of losing his seat in Williams, with the new owners had their own ambitions, which could have sidelined him for a year at least.
This year, so far he has failed to even a single point this season, though he was near to get one in Imola, a crash behind the safety car crushed his yearnings.
