“He’s the third-most winning driver in Ferrari history” – Ferrari Sporting Director Laurent Mekies paid tribute to Sebastian Vettel and his six years with the team.

Sebastian Vettel did not win a race this season but won 14 over the last six with Ferrari. This has made him the third-most successful driver in the iconic team’s F1 history. And despite not winning a world title with them, sporting director Laurent Mekies has paid tribute to the German, calling him an “outstanding professional”.

“We wanted to say a real thank you to Seb for what have been these six years with us. He’s the third-most winning driver in Ferrari history.”

“Of course we are finishing in the most difficult scenario possible, but even in these conditions, it’s been a year where he has been pulling us together, always keeping constructive and positive no matter what difficulties we were having.

“That’s the way you drive large teams like us, with everybody at the race track and Maranello.”

Sebastian Vettel has no regrets about six-year Ferrari stint

Sebastian Vettel joined Ferrari from Red Bull to become a world champion with them, like his idol Michael Schumacher. But despite getting close on one or two occasions, Mercedes took the ultimate prize. For Vettel, though, the partnership he had with Ferreri goes beyond winning or not winning titles.

“It’s goodbye to many friends and many people that I have worked with a lot in the last years, so those I will miss. But I’m sure that I will not miss them completely – we have a saying in German, I don’t know if you have it in English, but it’s that you always see each other twice in life.
