“Clippers and I don’t have a rivalry”: Damian Lillard responds to rumors about having beef with Paul George and Patrick Beverley
Damian Lillard says that the Portland Trail Blazers don’t have a rivalry with Paul George and the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Damian Lillard v Clippers drama was perhaps the most exciting thing the Clippers were a part of during their lacklustre Bubble campaign. It all started when Patrick Beverley and the Clippers bench taunted Damian Lillard for missing free throws in a seeding game.
This prompted Damian Lillard to take shots at Paul George and the Clippers in his postgame interview that day. This Faceoff led to a social media beef between the two parties which lasted for well over a month. ‘Cancun on 3’ became synonymous with the Blazers and Clippers getting booted from the 2020 Playoffs.
The two teams faced each other for the first time since the Bubble. Lillard had a few choice words for the Clippers roster ahead of the game.
Damian Lillard denies there being a rivalry between the Clippers and Blazers
Damian Lillard was asked about what he felt with NBA fans suggesting there is a rivalry between the Clips and Ripcity. Dame couldn’t make sense of it and said, “I thought a rivalry was built on the court, you what what I’m saying? I don’t think this is a rivalry.”
Lou Wiliams also denied the presence of any sort of a rivalry between the two squads. He stated everything that had happened in the Bubble with the Blazers was in the past and did not affect how they play the Blazers going forward.
For a rivalry to ensue, both parties must be on relatively the same level playing field. There was nothing ‘equal’ about last night’s game between the Clippers and Portland. The Clippers blew the Blazers out 128-105, and shut down Damian Lillard. Dame only shot 3-14 from the field. He made none of his eight shot attempts from the 3-point line.
It’s safe to say that any semblance of a rivalry that could’ve been brewing, was nipped by the bud by Portland’s abysmal performance.
