“I’m not paying to come to your party”: When Dwyane Wade met Michael Jordan for the first time on his draft night party in Chicago
Dwyane Wade narrates the hilarious story of how he met Michael Jordan for the first time after his draft party in a Chicago nightclub.
The Miami Heat legend has earned comparisons to the GOAT for his spectacular guard play. Wade carved a first-ballot Hall of Fame career out of playing in Jordan’s athletic style. The way Wade would split double-teams would remind everyone of the Bulls legend from his heyday.
D-Wade has always regarded Jordan as his idol, so it was a pleasant surprise for him to cross paths on draft night. Wade was having a draft night party after being picked fifth by Pat Riley’s Miami Heat.
Wade would turn the fortunes of the Heat around. They went from a .305 record to 42-40 in his rookie season, making the playoffs and the second round.
Dwyane Wade relates story about meeting Michael Jordan on draft night
“I remember the first time Michael Jordan was, I had a draft party in Chicago. And my cousin came into the club and was like, ‘Yo! they won’t let Michael Jordan into the club.”
“Jordan is sitting outside on a motorcycle with like 30 people. And I run up to him and he’s like, ‘Yo! young fellow. I just wanted to come and show you some love. Congratulations on being drafted, so on and so forth.’ So we had like this moment outside and Michael Jordan came to my party.”
Dwyane Wade’s 2003 draft party was ‘poppin,’ the night of his life. Then his cousin warned him: ‘MJ is outside, and he can’t get in.’ @TheAthleticNBA gives untold stories of meeting Michael Jordan https://t.co/hjvnNhxoPF
