Carlos Sainz to debut for Ferrari at Fiorana next week
Carlos Sainz to debut for Ferrari in Fiorana next week while his teammate Charles will also be involved with Robert Shwartzman.
Carlos Sainz has been working with Ferrari at Maranello since last month, soon after the 2020 season reached its end, and now for the first time, he is set to give Ferrari a track appearance.
According to a report by the Autosport, Sainz will sample a Ferrari F1 car for the first time at Fiorano next Wednesday as part of a wider team programme at its private test track.
Back when Sainz was racing for McLaren, but he had agreed to jin Ferrari in 2021, Mattia Binotto confirmed that it would give Sainz an older car to sample in winters.
The source further revealed that the running would be conducted in SF71H that raced through the 2018 season, winning six races. The test will offer Sainz first opportunity to take part in an on-track event with his crew and engineering team.
Others will join Carlos Sainz too.
Charles Leclerc, recently diagnosed with COVID-19 is also reportedly set to take part in the test, provided the Monegasque race driver gets a negative report in his next RT-PCR test.
Ferrari’s five-day test at Maranello will also include running members of the Ferrari Driver Academy, most notably for Formula 2 drivers Robert Shwartzman and Marcus Armstrong. Both will be on-track in the SF71H from Monday onwards.
It will be Armstrong’s first test appearance for Ferrari. Meanwhile, Shwartzman has previously taken part in running in the 2018-spec Ferrari at Fiorano and the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi last year, in which Sainz was not allowed to take part.
Giuliano Alesi is also rumoured to rake part in the test. Still, it is not known whether Ferrari test driver Callum Ilott will be participating in the same event or not.
