Martin Guptill catch: The senior Kiwi batsman made his presence felt on the field via a superb boundary catch to dismiss his counterpart.

During the 21st match of the ongoing season of the Super Smash between Auckland and Central Districts in Auckland, Auckland opening batsman Martin Guptill made his presence felt on the field via a superb boundary catch to dismiss Central Districts opening batsman George Worker (11).

After Central Districts captain Tom Bruce won the toss and invited the hosts in to bat, Guptill opened the batting with Sean Solia (21) to score to score a lacklustre 29 (31).

Had it not been for a game-changing 85-run partnership between Mark Chapman (73) and Auckland captain Robert O’Donnell (61), Auckland would have struggled to put on board a match-winning 199/6 in 20 overs.

Guptill, who ended up letting his team down at the top of the order in the first innings, covered up in a superb manner whilst fielding at long-on.

It was on the penultimate delivery of the fourth over when Worker aimed at hitting a Louis Delport delivery down the ground but unfortunately found Guptill at the boundary. While the batsman timed the ball well, Guptill ran hard to his right to complete a juggling one-handed stunner.

With Delport already sending back Dane Cleaver (11) in the same over, the visitors had lost both their opening batsmen in the left-arm spinner’s first over. As the chase progressed, Bruce scoring 52 (35) with the help of seven fours and a six wasn’t enough for Central Districts as they were restricted at 182/7 in 20 overs.
