“Steph Curry is my favorite player”: Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal explains why Warriors MVP is his go-to player to watch
Shaquille O’Neal went on Inside the NBA to say that his favourite player in today’s NBA is Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry.
Shaq is known for having several quotes and takes that are, “out there”. He isn’t scared to let his opinion on players in the league today be heard. He has, however, been quite hard on some of the NBA stars that currently dominate in the NBA.
In the past, he’s taken shots at players such as Karl Anthony-Towns and most notably, at Rudy Gobert. He seems to not like today’s big men all too much. This could be attributed to the fact that he perhaps doesn’t approve of their style of play. He’s used to the traditional ‘back to the basket’ style of play and gets agitated when bigs these days don’t use their physical gifts to bang down low.
Regardless, Shaq rarely gives out compliments nowadays. Steph Curry seems to be the exception here.
What Shaquille O’Neal said about Steph Curry
Shaq, also known as the self proclaimed ‘black Steph Curry’, wasn’t shy in letting his co-hosts know that he is 100% on-board the Curry hype train.
“I like him because it’s something that I’ve never seen before. A lot of times, when I try to compare the new era and the old era, people say I’m hating. I’ve never seen anything like Steph Curry and that’s why he’s my favourite player.”

Dwyane Wade and Candace Parker let him know that he was hating on the older generation of players but Shaq produced yet another quotable line by saying, “I’m too great to hate.”
Steph Curry is one-of-a-kind when considering the different types of players that have graced the NBA hardwood. There have only been a handful of NBA athletes who’ve impacted the way the game of basketball is played.
His ability to stretch the floor has ushered in a style of play that doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. So Shaq’s reasoning for why the 2x MVP is his favourite player is quite understandable.
