“There are other companies interested”- Red Bull engine is in demand after the engine freeze resolution been passed by the FIA and F1.
Red Bull received its biggest gain ahead of 2021 season when FIA and Formula 1 granted them the engine freeze decision, which they requested since the last summer.
Now, Red Bull is set to use Honda’s current technology till 2025, Helmut Marko has confessed, there have been companies who have been inquiring about their engine.
”We are crazy, but of course, we have calculated it. It is a one-off investment in the building and the test benches. The costs afterwards will not be higher than buying another engine. It costs more than what we do now, but not significantly”, he told Motorsport-magazin.com.
“Of course, there are no car manufacturers who want that, but there are other companies interested.” Therefore, Marko is delighted that there are more things his team can do.
”Now we are building an engine that is tuned with the chassis team. If we had had an engine from Renault for example, we would have been forced to build everything around that engine. Now we can do that ourselves”, the Austrian concludes.
New partnership in 2025
With the engine freeze, FIA has also pushed the date of new engine regulations to a year earlier, as all the teams will now have ample time to develop the engines for the following code.
Thus, Red Bull, like any other constructor, saving more money, would think of a new alliance to build an engine for 2025. Many reports speculate that it could be Audi.
On the other hand, a new team in F1 can also enter amidst the budget cap and anti-dilution fee waiver, making F1 a profitable prospect for new manufacture to extend its business. It remains to be seen what will Red Bull do by then.
