“Damian Lillard should be in the MVP conversation”: Shannon Sharpe says that the Blazers superstar needs to be talked about alongside the likes of LeBron James and Joel Embiid
Shannon Sharpe calls for Damian Lillard to be considered a top MVP candidate this season following a 6-game Blazers win streak.
The Portland TrailBlazers have officially gotten rid of the early season jitters and are on a roll, nearly 30 games into the season. Following yet another thrilling victory against Zion Williamson and the Pelicans, Damian Lillard has led the Blazers to six consecutive wins. They currently hold the 4th seed out West and have the 5th best record in the league.
What’s even more impressive is that Damian Lillard is doing this without his co-stars, CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic. Both of them are on the mend and out for the foreseeable future.
Guys like Gary Trent Jr have stepped up to the plate, as he’s averaging 19 points per game in the last 10 games. Robert Covington has become the 3&D forward the Blazers needed him to be and Enes Kanter has been feasting on the offensive glass all season long.
Despite the other Blazers coming into their own these past 10 games, Portland still runs on Dame Time.
Shannon Sharpe says Damian Lillard should be an MVP candidate this season
Different analysts have different takes on Damian Lillard and the legitimacy of his 2021 MVP candidacy. Guys like the Athletic’s John Hollinger believe he isn’t even in the top 8 MVP of potential MVP candidates at the moment.
However, the common consensus following this Blazers stretch is that Dame DOLLA is in that conversation. Dame has been in MVP talks before as he finished 5th in voting back in 2018.
Shannon Sharpe feels strongly about Dame’s MVP-esque season and says he’s “big time clutch”. The 6’2 point guard is leading the NBA in field goal percentage in clutch minutes this season at a whopping 60% and is top 3 in scoring in the same timespan.
Real talk, when are we going to put Dame Lillard in the MVP discussion? He’s big time clutch, was sensational again tonite.

Blazers reporter Mike Richman says that it’s “criminal” to not have Damian Lillard in the top 5 of the MVP discussion alongside LeBron James, Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, and Kawhi Leonard.
