“Fightback is on”: Ian Bell impressed by England dismissing Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant early on Day 2
Ian Bell impressed: The former English batsman seemed excited after the visitors dictated terms in the afternoon session on Day 2.
During the second day of the third Test of the ongoing England’s tour of India in Ahmedabad, England have made early inroads into the Indian batting lineup by dismissing as many as five batsmen in the afternoon session.
Resuming from their overnight score of 99/3, India didn’t begin today’s proceedings in the best possible manner as vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane (7) was found wanting in front of the stumps by England spinner Jack Leach.
Leach, who was making the ball talk from the word go today, sent back India opening batsman Rohit Sharma (66) in his following over after the latter unsuccessfully swept the left-arm spinner only to get his on the stomach in front of the off-stump.
India wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant (1), who was expected to put on display a counter-attacking show against Leach, ended up edging a Joe Root delivery straight to England wicket-keeper Ben Foakes.
Much like what was the case with the English batsmen yesterday, the hosts have also matches their counterparts when it comes to throwing away their wickets on ordinary deliveries. With Ravichandran Ashwin battling it out in the middle, India would be hoping for him to build on India’s lead.
