The FA Rejects Plans for Nationwide North And South Step 2 Mini-leagues
The governing council spurned concepts of a newly worked concept
The National Leagues North and South which were earlier curtailed owing to the havoc wrecked by the Coronavirus pandemic have now been scrapped as a whole by the FA for the ongoing season.
Confirming their decision, the country’s football governing council revealed that the latest development would rule the league null and void for the season. Although Dorking and Gloucester City, leaders of their respective divisions are set to have lobbied hard to resume the league, the FA decided to end the season midway without any promotion.
North And South League Scuppered
The FA citied the decision by the Alliance Committee towards protecting the integrity of the National League system.
The FA’s statement on the move went onto read: “Consideration was given to an alternative sporting solution at Step 2 in line with a proposal submitted by certain Step 2 clubs that wished to continue playing.
“The Alliance Committee rejected the proposal, and any alternative, in the interest of the integrity of the National League System.
“Further reasons for this decision will be communicated directly to clubs in due course.”
The National League meanwhile would continue without any promotion or relegation.
Step 2 Proposal Rejected
The Football Association also went onto reveal that it had decided to spurn a proposal for a step 2 mini-league.
The body revealed its thinking behind the decision with a statement that said: Our Alliance Committee have today considered a paper from the National League addressing the National League resolutions in relation to the 2020/21 season and an alternative proposal from certain Clubs at Step 2.
Subject to FA Council approval, the Alliance Committee decided:
- To support the outcome of the National League resolution resulting in:
- The continuation of Step 1
• That the 2020/21 season is declared null and void at Step 2 with no promotion or relegation from Step 2 (or relegation from Step 1)
- Consideration was also given to an alternative sporting solution at Step 2 in line with a proposal submitted by certain Step 2 clubs that wished to continue playing. The Alliance Committee rejected the proposal, and any alternative, in the interest of the integrity of the National League System. Further reasons for this decision will be communicated directly to clubs in due course.
