Finn Allen: The rookie opening batsman from New Zealand didn’t hesitate from playing an unorthodox shot to get off the mark.

During the second T20I of the ongoing Bangladesh’s tour of New Zealand in Napier, New Zealand opening batsman Finn Allen didn’t hesitate from playing a reverse sweep off Bangladesh spinner Nasum Ahmed to get off the mark in international cricket.

Allen, 21, had made his T20I debut in the first T20I in Hamilton only to register a first-ball duck as he was clean bowled by Ahmed, who picked his maiden T20I wicket.

Facing the same bowler again, Allen was seen playing a confident reverse sweep for a boundary through the point region to score first runs in international cricket.

Allen, who hit another boundary off Bangladesh pacer Mohammad Saifuddin in his first over, welcomed another pacer in Taskin Ahmed with a gargantuan six over the mid-wicket area which witnessed the ball landing on the roof of the McLean Park.

It was in the same over that Allen mis-timed another big hit as he was caught brilliantly Mohammad Naim at square leg. Having scored 17 (10) with the help of two fours and a six, Allen might not have justified his potential but has given enough hints of what he can do in the format especially if given a chance in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.

It is worth mentioning that Allen has been roped in by Royal Challengers Bangalore as Australia wicket-keeper batsman Josh Philippe’s replacement for IPL 2021. At RCB from next month, Allen will share the dressing room with the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell.
