Porto Vs Chelsea: “It’s a big test”: Christian Pulisic Admits Chelsea Face A Gruelling Challenge In The Champions League
Chelsea are poised to take on Porto on Wednesday
When Christian Pulisic had netted against West Brom, it looked like Chelsea would ease to their 15th unbeaten result under Thomas Tuchel’s tutelage. However, things needed little time in going from bad to worse for the club as they suffered their heaviest defeat since Tuchel has been instated as the club’s coach.
Losing Thiago Silva as the CB was sent off after receiving two yellow cards, Chelsea failed to paper over the cracks developing in their ranks. The team ended up shipping five goals on the night, a horrid display which also saw Pulisic hobble away at the resumption point owing to an injury.
Pulisic Discusses Chelsea Defeat
Pulisic who is currently an injury scare ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League appointment has now opened up his side’s 5-2 hammering. The USMNT player also talked about the impending Champions League quarter-final and how Chelsea were preparing for the tie.
“It was a tough first half for us, we can’t do that to ourselves. We made some simple mistakes that we wouldn’t usually make and obviously a red card changes the complexion of a game,” Pulisic said when speaking about his team’s 5-2 defeat.
“But overall we made it really tough for ourselves. You never want to go down to ten men in football, it’s never easy in that situation.
“You have to give West Brom credit though, they played really well today and were positive in their attacking actions.”
“It’s a big test of our mentality now. We’ve got some really big games coming up,” USA international Pulisic added.
“We’ve been in good form prior to the international break and obviously we’ve come back and lost one game. We can’t dwell on that because we have a lot to play for in both the Premier League and the Champions League.”
Pulisic will most likely be a spectator against Porto with him unlikely to recover in time for the showdown on Wednesday.
