County Championship 2021: Lancashire’s Dane Vilas extends support to India amid COVID-19 crisis
Dane Vilas extends support to India: Lancashire posted a video message of their captain wishing well for India amid difficult times.
Before the sixth round of the ongoing season of County Championship 2021, Lancashire took to their social media platform Twitter handle to wish well for India as the country is struggling to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic.
The message was delivered by Lancashire captain Dane Vilas who urged the Indians to stay safe and look after one other in these unprecedented times.
“The thoughts here at Lancashire cricket are with India in this difficult time. Please continue to stay safe, look after one another, and we can beat this terrible disease,” Vilas said in the video.
Hit significantly hard by the ongoing wave of coronavirus, India is struggling with medical facilities ranging from hospital beds to oxygen cylinders. Going by the latest numbers, India is registering in excess of 3,50,000 cases on a daily basis.
It is due to the coronavirus that Indian Premier League 2021 had been postponed midway through its 14th season. Subsequently, all the overseas players have left India to either fly straight into their country or fly via other countries to not violate restrictions put up by their respective governments.
The global pandemic has also seen high-profile names such as Pat Cummins, Brett Lee, Rajasthan Royals, Capitals, Shikhar Dhawan, Sachin Tendulkar, Jaydev Unadkat, Nicholas Pooran, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and others donating to various causes to aid the country in its fight against the virus.

Lancashire, who will play their next match against Northamptonshire from May 20 in Northampton, are currently the table-toppers in Group 3 on the back of three victories and no loss in five matches so far.
It was in March that Lancashire had signed India batsman Shreyas Iyer for a stint in the Royal London Cup. However, with Iyer recovering from a dislocated shoulder, his availability for the same isn’t confirmed for now.
