Ashes 2021-22 schedule and fixtures: The fixtures for the prestigious Test series between Australia and England were released late last night.

The prestigious Ashes 2021-22 will begin with Australia hosting England in Brisbane as per the custom over the years. Having said that, the start of the series has been delayed to December 8 citing mandatory quarantine periods set to be put in place upon both Australia and England’s arrival from the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in November.

Afghanistan, whose maiden Test against Australia was postponed due to COVID-19 last year, will play it to commence Australia’s international summer in Hobart from November 27. Australia, who don’t have any Test cricket scheduled till then, will be looking to play a full-strength XI in their only Test before the Ashes.

“We’re thrilled they’re able to come this year. It was a huge disappointment they were unable to tour last year. I’ve been speaking to the Afghan ambassador here, and I know the entire Afghan community in Australia is extremely excited so I’m certainly hoping as many of them as possible will be making the trip to Hobart,” Cricket Australia’s interim CEO Nick Hockley said in a statement.

After the first Test at the Gabba, the second one will be played at the Adelaide Oval. In what will continue to be a day-night affair, the hosts would want to extend their unbeaten streak in day-night Tests at home later this year.

Melbourne and Sydney, best known for hosting the Boxing Day and the New Year’s Test, have been allotted the same matches this time as well before proceedings move to Perth for the final Test from January 14. It is worth mentioning that Perth Stadium and not the WACA will host the fifth Test between Australia and England.

December 8-12: 1st Test, Australia vs England at Gabba

December 16-20: 2nd Test, Australia vs England at Adelaide Oval

December 26-30: 3rd Test, Australia vs England at MCG

January 5-9: 4th Test, Australia vs England at SCG

January 14-18: 5th Test, Australia vs England at Perth Stadium
