“Gabrielle Union leads our marriage, not me”: Dwyane Wade graciously thanks his wife for providing direction to the Heat legend’s marriage and career

Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union are one of the most famous power couples in the world. According to D-Wade, the former actress leads their marriage.

The Heat legend began dating the Bad Boys 2 actress in the year 2008. This came after his split with his high school girlfriend, whom he divorced in 2007. Wade also won sole custody of his kids in a court battle with Siohvaughn Funches in 2011.

Wade met Gabrielle in 2008 and they got together in 2009. After a romance of 5 years, the two got married to each other in 2014. Union has taken a step back from her career as an actress.

Currently aged 48, Union is 10 years older than her husband Dwyane. You might have been forgiven for thinking she was a lot younger than this – I certainly didn’t know till a couple of years ago.

The two have often been spotted sizzling the red carper, both at NBA events and awards shows. There’s clearly a lot of love between Wade and his partner.

The class act that D-Wade is, he’s always found a way to acknowledge Gabrielle’s impact on his life. He was recently on an interview where he stated the following:

“It’s not the man leads and the woman follows, that’s not what we live in this house. For me, I have a wife that works not just as hard, harder than I. She had her own career, her own life, before I came along.”

“From my perspective, I was like, ‘How can I be a part of the growth, the evolution, of who she is?’ Not try to change her or stunt her growth.”

Gabrielle echoes these sentiments herself, as she’s revealed in several interviews. The decision to go for surrogacy and for Gabrielle to welcome D-Wade’s other kids is the example of a family making the best of its circumstances. Zaire and Zaya seem to have a great bond with Gabrielle, and we wish the family a great life ahead.
