“Is he going to pay the bill?” – Christian Horner lays into Toto Wolff for Valtteri Bottas’s crash on both Red Bulls
“Is he going to pay the bill?” – Christian Horner was in his sarcastic best when questioned about the impact of damage of Valtteri Bottas’ crash on Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez in the opening lap of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
If Mercedes showing the door to Valtteri Bottas wasn’t a given already, the opening lap at Hungarian has more than confirmed it. The under-pressure Finn crashed onto the McLaren of Lando Norris, and then went to hit both the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

Safe to say, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner wasn’t impressed at all. When asked if he has spoken to Mercedes counterpart Toto Wolff regarding this, Horner had this to say. He also pleaded to the FIA to make adjustments to the cost cap, as these accidents cost in millions to the teams.
“Is he going to pay the bill?”
“It is racing. Toto wasn’t driving the car. Valtteri was driving the car. I am sure he didn’t tell him to drive into the Red Bull.
“I am sure he isn’t sorry about the result but I am sure he didn’t tell Valtteri to do that but the consequence of it for us is brutal.
“In the cost cap environment, that needs looking at and needs looking at by the FIA. Obviously, you’ve got to look at what’s within the cap.
“It’s spare parts and it’s the engines as well that are particularly concerning so I think we need to revisit this with the FIA because ultimately it is something that could affect all teams not just Red Bull.”
