Virat Kohli opens up his idea of scoring a double century in ODIs
Virat Kohli is someone who makes a foray against the opposition right from ball one. He looks prime with crispy touches and this is why the run-machine is efficient as always. In a candid chat with Cheteshwar Pujara to BCCI.tv, Virat Kohli spoke about his plan of scoring a double century in ODIs which he has six double centuries in Tests.
According to Virat Kohli, openers can nudge towards reaping for big runs. If he gets a chance early on in the innings, had India encounter some hiccups losing a couple of wickets, he said he can try to pace the innings to convert the innings to a big one.
“Well, it is not something which I can plan. Openers have a better chance. Maybe if I get to bat early. (But) if the wicket is nice you rarely get to bat in the first two or three overs. When it is challenging you can go in as number three very quickly. You know that in Test matches also. I don’t know.
If we are batting first in some game and the wicket is nice to bat on, somehow if I get to bat (early). You know I don’t want to be on the field in the first five overs because you want a good start. If I end up doing that, get a good start, maybe I can carry on. I have come close twice. But it is something which you can’t pinpoint,” Virat Kohli added.
Virat Kohli heaped praise on Rohit Sharma for his impressive ability to score two double centuries. Rohit Sharma is the only player in the history of ODIs to score 2 double tons. Rohit has the sheer ability to convert the 100’s to big scores.
Kohli said that Rohit is ‘unstoppable’ after going past the 140-run mark. However, Virat Kohli said he will try to score one if he has enough overs in hand. “Rohit (Sharma) has done it two times. I don’t think that I can hit as many shots as him, in the later half of the innings. That is why he ended up doing that. He is unstoppable if he goes past 130 or 140. I will try to do it if I have enough overs,” Kohli added.
