Kumar Sangakkara believes run-machine Virat Kohli can break his record
It is no secret that Virat Kohli is earning a lot of praises for his stellar performances. Many cricket experts, legends and fans have spoken more about ‘Virat Kohli’ than anyone else in contemporary cricket. Quite recently, Kumar Sangakkara came into the frame to praise the run-machine for his brilliant performances across formats.
Virat Kohli has just completed the 2017 year on a superior note with emphasis much on essaying runs for the team. His hunger for scoring runs has been amazing, but despite having one of the best years in World cricket, he fell short of Kumar Sangakkara’s outstanding record by a whisker.
One of the senior Sri Lankan statisticians pointed out that Virat Kohli was 51 runs short of breaking Kumar Sangakkara’s record in a calendar year. His caption read, “Kumar Sangakkara’s 2868 runs in 2014 will remain as the highest tally ever recorded in a calendar year as Virat Kohli ends the year 2017 with 2818 runs #Cricket”
However, Kumar Sangakkara replied to the tweet by saying that he is not really sure whether his record will last long as long as Virat Kohli is batting like a dream. Sangakkara believes that Virat Kohli is a class apart as he said that Kohli will surpass his (Sangakkara) record in the next year. In addition to that, Sangakkara said Virat Kohli will keep doing that again and again.
“I don’t think that will last long the way @imVkohli is batting. He will probably overtake it next year and then do it again the year after. He is a different class.”

Virat Kohli could have easily overtaken Kumar Sangakkara’s record had he not taken rest for the Sri Lanka ODI and T20I assignments. Kohli felt that it is necessary for him to take the much-needed rest having given his non-stop service for the last 48 months.
