Reports: IPL 2020 to have minimal day matches

IPL 2020 to have minimal day matches: The Indian Premier League looks set for some new and much-needed changes.

With the date for the IPL auction of the next season of the Indian Premier League getting confirmed now, all eyes are on if any franchise make a trade-off with any other franchise. Before the trading window closes, franchises tend to make a change or two in a bid to make the most preferred combination.

Once the trading window closes, the only changes which the franchises will be able to make will be during the auction. In what is a mini-auction, fans shouldn’t expect their teams to make plentiful changes.

Despite the success that the tournament has gained in its 12 seasons, there has generally been some criticism regarding the timings of the match. Both fans and players generally complain about the afternoon matches conducted during weekends.

Hot and humid weather conditions in North India makes it difficult for players to take the field during a match which starts at 4 PM. If reports in Indian Express are to be believed, the IPL Governing Council is all set to ponder on the problem and is likely to make changes accordingly.

“There is a plan in place of playing more games at night. If it is passed, each team will have to play only one game in the afternoon. Teams who play in the north face heatwaves and conditions get more difficult. There is a plan of using all 60 days instead of wrapping up the IPL in 45 days. The IPL GC has to approve it,” the source was quoted as saying.

In what sounds easier said than done, the Governing Council will have to consider several factors for increasing the duration of the tournament by 60 days will also have its own ramifications.
