What Man City star Kevin De Bruyne’s “2-1” goal celebration actually meant
Kevin De Bruyne has now become a household name in England- the 26-year old is arguably the best player in Manchester City’s squad. And that is no easy task in a squad lined up with players such as David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane.
The Belgian grabbed the spotlight yet again with a goal against Tottenham this weekend, while City went on to win 4-1- to complete their 16th consecutive victory- a Premier League Record.
Twitter went gaga over the celebration:
After belting in a left-footer against Lloris at goal, the midfielder celebrated by raising two fingers on his left and one on his right towards the camera.
The meaning of the celebration was immediately debated upon by the Twitterati- the most common ones either signalling the 21-point lead over Tottenham his goal would give Manchester City or a dig at bitter rivals Manchester United, who lost 2-1 at Old Trafford a week ago.

Both seemed good enough to be true, but neither are.
What’s the real reason behind the celebration?
During the post-match press conference, the Belgian claimed that his celebration was a tribute to David Silva, who missed the game due to “personal reasons”.
The Spain international has been one of Pep Guardiola‘s key players this season and was expected to keep his place for the match against Spurs at the Etihad Stadium.
But Silva misses out as Guardiola made three changes to the side that started in the 4-0 win over Swansea City on Wednesday night.
Once in the dressing room after the match, the entire team showed their solidarity to tribute the 30-year old, which can be seen from Leroy Sane’s tweet with holding up Silva’s shirt.
Yeeees… The next big win! 🔥⚽🔥 We showed again why we are @PremierLeague No1! 🔝#inSané #LS19 #MCITOT @mancity pic.twitter.com/YdNWecaY0a

Tottenham was in line to stop the Blues’ 15-match unbeaten run but ended up getting thrashed 4-1 away from home. De Bruyne lauded his side’s performance on the pitch- “We are here to win titles.
We had a great start, it’s still more than half [of the season remaining] so it’s still very difficult – we want to win every game and everybody who comes in is doing an incredible job. “
