CSK home games to be moved out of Chennai
In what comes as a huge jolt to the CSK franchise and their fans, all CSK games have been moved out of Chennai owing to the ongoing Cauvery water dispute.
CSK had their first home game at the Chepauk last night after a gap of 1095 days and the crowd were greeted with a brilliant last over finish, with Bravo and Jadeja taking CSK over the line.
A day after that fabulous finish BCCI have now confirmed that all IPL matches will be shifted from Chennai to a new venue.
Pro-Tamil activists had been carrying out numerous processions and protests, having even called for a boycott of yesterday’s CSK vs KKR game.
Boots were hurled at a du Plessis and Ravindra Jadeja at the ground as well.
The Tamil Nadu police has been working towards controlling these protests but the BCCI is concerned about the safety of the players and hence has shifted all games out of Chennai.
A few protest groups like Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) believe that the IPL would serve as a distraction for the Cauvery protests and hence should be banned.
The IPL governing council and the BCCI haven’t decided on a venue until now but Trivandrum has appeared as one of the possible venues for all CSK home games.
This would come as a huge setback for all CSK fans and players, both of whom would have hoped to create a lot of memories at the Chepauk after a gap of two years.
While the decision doesn’t seem like one that could be overturned, CSK fans would be hoping against hope that somehow the BCCI and the IPL governing body get the IPL back to Chennai.
