Manchester United are closing in on Ivan Rakitic

It looks like Ivan Rakitic’s time at Barcelona is coming to a close this summer.

When Cesc Fabregas left Barcelona in 2014, many Catalans were wondering how they would replace the graceful Spaniard at the Nou Camp.

Fabregas arrived amidst much fan fare to Barcelona, as the returning hero was expected to finally replace the great Xavi. But Fabregas did not have a great time with the Catalans, as the Nou Camp often booed the midfielder.

Rakitic was brought in as Fabregas’ replacement, and immediately became a star for the Catalan side.

The classy Croatian formed a brilliant partnership with Busquets and Iniesta in the center of the park, as the trio were crucial in Barcelona’s treble winning season.

Rakitic has been great for Barcelona over the years, as he is held in very high esteem by the team and fans.

“He’s very important. Not just for this game.

“In general he gives us balance, he stabilises us and has everything, goals, strategy and hard work.

“It’s a luxury to have him.”But with the arrival of Coutinho in the January transfer window, many people expect Rakitic to leave the club in the summer. There are many clubs in the Premier League who are extremely interested in signing the Croatian, with Liverpool heading that queue.

Now we also hear that Manchester United are very interested in bringing the Croatian to Old Trafford, as Jose Mourinho wants the silky midfielder to partner Matic in the engine room on the field.
