David Warner all set to commentate in England-Australia ODI series
Part of the ‘Australian banned trio’ for his involvement in the ball tampering scandal, opening batsman David Warner has devised a new method of utilising the time during his 1 year ban. The southpaw will join the fellow commentators of Channel nine for the second match of the series on June 16.
Warner has agreed to commentate in the five match series to be played between Australia and England. This would be Australia’s first series after the ball tampering controversy on the tour of South Africa. Australia have already reached England and have started well in the first two practice matches against Middlesex and Sussex, winning both of them.
The erstwhile vice captain of the Australian Cricket team, David Warner was slapped a 1 year ban along with captain Steve Smith and young batsman Cameron Bancroft for their role in tampering with the ball at Newlands.
The director of sport of the Channel Nine, Tom Malone, was all praise for David Warner and welcomed him in the commentary box: “Dave is the best one-day and T20 batsman of the past decade so he’s perfectly placed to join our coverage for the UK series. People have tried to paint Dave as the villain in all this, but he’s been hurting as much as the others.”
Tom also advocated for a second chance to all the banned cricketers. He believed that they are inherently good people and should be given a chance to win back the trust of the Australian public:
“We’ve had a professional relationship with Dave for five years now. We’ve always found him to be a pretty normal and humble bloke. He just wants to atone for his mistakes and move on – I hope Australia gives all of them that chance.”
Warner will return to competitive in the upcoming Global T20 Canada as part of the Winnipeg Hawks franchise.
