Red Bull to announce Honda deal
The Red Bull- Renault saga has stretched on for a little too long now, as Red Bull have been postponing contract extension details for a long time now.
Renault’s deal with Red Bull is set to come to expire at the end of this season and thus Renault have been behind Red Bull’s backs for a clear indication of what they have in mind for next season.
Horner and co. though have been stalling for quite some time now, something that hasn’t gone down very well with Renault.
While the Red Bull have asked for until Austria to come out with the final decision, reports in AutoBild confirm that Red Bull have already made a decision and are going ahead with Honda in what could be one of the strangest decisions in the sport in the last few years.
Renault have been supplying good quality engines to Red Bull, but clearly the little Honda experiment with sister team Toro Rosso has provided Red Bull with a better alternative.
The data that Red Bull have been receiving from both suppliers has helped them take an informed decision and Honda’s Canada upgrade has given Red Bull the confidence to go ahead with the Japanese manufacturer for the 2018-19 season.
“We’re talking about three-tenths faster lap times,” says Red Bull chief consultant Helmut Marko about the Honda update.
This decision comes as a huge setback for the french engine supplier, as Red Bull was the only chance that they had of winning an F1 title. Both Renault and McLaren currently don’t have it what it takes to win an F1 title.
Is this a bad move from Red Bull?
