WATCH: Paul Pogba scores the winner for France
France have been pipped as the World Cup favourites considering the kind of quality and the depth that their squad possesses.
But the expectations got to them a little bit today, as their otherwise free flowing system just couldn’t find its way through the stoic Australian defence.
Frustration had started to creep in and it seemed like France could end up drawing or maybe even losing their opening 2018 World Cup encounter.
However, Griezmann stepped to the penalty spot to give France the lead and a goal fest was expected after that.
But Umtiti’s raised hand made contact with the ball and Australia were awarded a penalty against the run of play.
Jedinak cooly slotted it past Lloris and Australia had drawn level. France seemed a little flustered with what was transpiring on the field, but a brilliant one two between Pogba and Giroud, with Pogba sticking out his foot to complete the finish meant that France had finally taken the lead again.
Normalcy had returned and Pogba and the whole of France rejoiced.

As I write this, France look on course to get their first win of the 2018 campaign. A lot of technology was on display today as Greizmann’s first goal was a result of VAR being put in place.
For the Pogba goal too, Goal line technology was used as the ball had bounced off the cross bar and over the goal line.
Can France go onto win the World Cup?
