Mexico star Miguel Layun provides ‘huge boost’ to Arsenal
Layun is currently with Mexican national team in Russia as they chase World Cup glory.
Unai Emery’s club has been quite active in the transfer market, with two signings already in the transfer kitty. Arsenal signed veteran defender Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus, and yesterday announced Bern Leno’s signature from Bayer Leverkusen.

While Arsenal are strongly linked with the transfer of Borussia Dortmund’s defender Sokratis Papasthatopoulos and Ever Banega, reports emerge that the Gunners are also targeting Miguel Layun.
The Mexican full-back is currently in Russia, representing his team in the World Cup. Even though he is naturally a defender, he has appeared on the wings for Mexico in the tournament. Layun played a major role as he led relentless counter-attacks on the wings in Mexico’s shock 2-1 win over Germany.
His versatility to play various roles on the pitch has caught the eye of Arsenal’s boss Unai Emery. The Gunners’ manager is keen to pursue Layun, as the World Cup ends next month.
The Mexican defender spent his last season at Spanish club Sevilla on loan from FC Porto. However, in an interview with Cadena SAR, he has hinted that the move will not be permanent.
“I think if they had the intention [to sign me full-time] they would have already communicated with me and with my agent,” Layun said.
“In a tournament like the World Cup I’m totally focused on what I want to achieve here, but of course there is always that issue of not knowing what will be of my future,” the Mexican defender added.
