Rumour Mill: Ferrari have decided on their 2019 driver’s lineup
Ferrari find themselves second on the constructor’s championship table, comfortably behind Mercedes despite both teams having a fairly positive start to the 2018 season.
Raikkonen’s form has been a factor of concern for Ferrari this season, despite his podium finish at the French GP, where he was aided by that lap 1 fiasco that took place right at Turn 1.
Reports have already suggested that this could be Raikkonen’s final season in Formula 1 and Ferrari are on the lookout for another driver to take up his seat.
Ricciardo and Leclerc seem to be the most likely options to replace Kimi, but reports in a Swedish F1 podcast suggest that Ferrari have lost interest in getting Ricciardo to Ferrari and have instead pooled all their resources in getting Leclerc from the 2019 season.
In the Swedish F1 podcast, the anchors claim that their well placed sources have informed them that a move for Ricciardo is going to be a little too expensive for Ferrari and thus they have shut the door on him.
The podcast also claims that their inside source from Sauber has revealed that an agreement to get Leclerc to Ferrari next season is already in place and that the driver will partner Vettel from next season.
Ricciardo fins himself in quite a soup now as he is trying to negotiate a new contract with Red Bull. But with Ferrari and Mercedes not showing a lot of interest in him(as they have their drivers sorted), he will find negotiations with Red Bull pretty tough.
He might thus be forced to consider contracts from McLaren and Renault, despite both teams not performing well in F1 off late.
