Arsenal puruse Schalke 04’s Max Meyer

FC Schalke 04’s Max Meyer is all set to become a free agent when his contract at Schalke runs out on Sunday.

The German international has attracted various European clubs, who recognise him as one of Germany’s best rising talents.

And among those top European clubs, come Arsenal, who have been monitoring the 22-year-old’s position over the last year. The Gunners are said to have included Meyer’s in their long-term plans.

There are reports, however, that the club considers Meyer’s wage demands a bit too high. The German’s demands are as high as his reputation, according to the reports.

German newspaper, Bild, claim that Meyer wants wages of more than £4 million a year to sign for a new club.

On the other hand, Arsenal’s league rivals, Liverpool, are believed to be interested in acquiring Meyer’s services as well.

However, even the Merseyside club were put off due to Meyer’s huge demands, that will see the 22-year-old earn around £77,000 a week.

German outlet, Bild, have reported that Atletico Madrid and Fenerbahce have also decided to follow Arsenal and Liverpool’s footsteps by denying Meyer due to his huge wage demands.

Roger Wittman, Meyer’s agent, is now reportedly holding negotiations with Marseille, regarding the 22-year-old move to the French club.

Arsenal were reported to be chasing the German international while former manager, Arsene Wenger, was at the club. It is said that the Frenchman was a big fan of Meyer’s footballing skills.

However, Arsenal’s transfer business has moved in an all new direction under officials Sven Mislintat and Raul Sanllehi, who have been catering the demands of new manager, Unai Emery, well.

Arsenal have already completed two signings this summer. Stephan Lichtsteiner joined the club in the first week of June, while German goalkeeper Bernd Leno was the second arrival of the transfer window.
