Mercedes undergo technical personnel change
Mercedes have undergone a massive reshuffle in their technical team, with engineering director, Aldo Costa set to move into a consultancy role from 2019.
Costa was previously the technical director of Ferrari and moved to Mercedes in 2011, wherein he helped Mercedes develop a car that ruled the sport for years together.
Costa’s role will now be an advisory one, with John Owen set to take Costa’s place in the hierarchy.
John Owen would be reporting to the technical director James Allison, another former Ferrari employee.
Mark Ellis, the performance director too will be retiring from his position, kicking off his sabbatical mid-way next year.
Ellis had previously worked with Red Bull and will be replaced by chief vehicle dynamicist Loic Serra.
“This is a significant moment for our team and a great opportunity.
“We have said many times that you cannot freeze a successful organisation; it is a dynamic structure and I am proud that we are able to hand the baton smoothly to the next generation of leaders inside the team.
“We have been in discussion for many months with both Mark and Aldo about how best to implement this transition and to empower their successors.
“Mark and Aldo have both helped to shape the timing and manner of these changes, and the team’s future is very bright with John, Loic and our entire technical leadership working under James’ direction.” Wolff said.
Mercedes will now be hoping to get their act together for the German GP, so as to retake the lead in the both the driver’s and constructor’s championship.
